Letter from Team Digital
|

As a child, I remember August always came too quickly and even though it signifies the end of summer, there's plenty of time left for family vacations, day trips with friends and last minute shopping trips. Shopping for back to school also brings back some fond memories of my childhood. Spending a day at the mall with my mom and sister buying new clothes or uniforms, shoes, school supplies – who doesn't love school supplies! Whatever you do in these last few weeks of summer, don't forget to capture these seemingly small memories. |
|
Remember that it is never too late to start recording yours or your child's school day memories. Growing up, my mom kept careful records of each school year in a journal. Every year there's a photo of me, my signature, age, weight and a wealth of information about me during that year – my favorite things, friends, what I wanted to be when I grew up. It is a book that I cherish today and have even decided to turn into a digital scrapbook. Consider starting a book like this for your child or even for yourself. It will always be something you can all look back on with fondness.
August doesn't just mean back to school, either! If you don't have children, there are plenty of smaller holidays that you can incorporate into your scrapbooking that you probably never thought to celebrate! The first week of August is Breastfeeding Week as well as Clown week. This is followed by Smile week, Children's Book week and Friendship week. Use these lesser known celebrations as themes in your scrapbooks, but whatever you do, remember to keep on sharing those pages!
Enjoy the rest of August,
Jamie Rousselle DSP Senior Designer |

DET Focus – Maureen Hlavacek aka “bentrdr”
I had thought for some years that I would like to try something artistic on the computer with my photographs and when I discovered Digital Scrapbook Place, I realized I could combine both the artistic and the memory preservation.
With paper scrapping, I was frustrated sorting through stacks of papers and elements to try to put a layout together so it was exciting to see the coordinated elements and mix and match background choices in the kits in the DSP store.... and with so much depth and realism!
I might start a layout either with a kit I love or with a photo. I might start with colors, theme of the kit or emotions in the photos, whatever catches my interest. There are also many wonderful memories with no or only one or two photos and a beautiful or interesting kit can make a special layout even with poor photos. The overlays I've tried for the first time recently are so easy and create such wonderful results and I just love word art to add that special finishing touch to a page. When people are viewing my albums, they always read the word art, even if not always the journaling.
Changing the colors of a set of papers and elements occasionally to even better match photos was something I learned after taking some digital university (DSU) classes here at DSP, although I still always start with a great kit. Testament to the popularity and growth of digital scrapbooking and the quality of the DSP kits, last week I took prints of my digitally created latest vacation album to our local paper scrapbook store to have photocopies made. The store employees were admiring the prints and I was soon explaining digital scrapping and writing down the DSP web site for them!
You can see Maureen's latest layouts in the
Digital Elite Gallery, and meet the rest of the Inaugural Digital
Elite Team here.
Use these fun holiday observances as ideas for new layouts!
